Letters, 1845-1867, n.d.

The collection consists of letters written by Théodore Rousseau concerned with business transactions and personal visits. In one letter of 1845(?) to a gallery dealer, he expresses his anger that the dealer presumed to include Rousseau's paintings in the catalog for an upcoming exhibition without the artist's permission to show those specific works. A letter of 1860 is a request to Seurier for a loan against a forthcoming check from his father. Among the undated letters are one that gives directions to Barbizon so that Philippe Burty can hand-deliver engraving plates, and another that details the preparations for a close friend's upcoming visit. Also included is a receipt for M. Comte d'Aquila's loan of "Paysage Français" to be exhibited at the Exposition Universelle, and the conditions of that agreement.
